People over Projects

I love to make a plan, check the boxes and get the job done. But at the end of the day, what are we really about?

I love to make a plan, check the boxes and get the job done. But at the end of the day, what are we really about? Leading a community of Builders, I soon realized it can be easy for our eyes to get off the target.

Traveling around the world, it has become clearly evident…we are in the people business. The people that I get to meet and work with include true heroes of the faith who serve in roles and conditions that take true grit.

From pastors in Cuba who have spent time in prison for sharing the Gospel to Bible school students in South Africa who live on practically nothing, while struggling through school just to start a work in even more difficult circumstances.

Working in a cross cultural environment often leaves one dazed and confused. It can be a challenge to understand what a person is thinking, expecting, etc. An easy response would be to say, shut up…get out of my way…and let me get the job done.

I have challenged the team at Builders International (and myself!) to remember, we have a job to do…but at the end of the day, we are in the people business. In our DNA should be this element: We are People over Projects!

Here are pictures with some of the people I met or reconnected with in my recent trip to Haiti:

You honor each and every person you meet. Jesus smiles and loves through you and Lacy. We are so privileged to know you. You reminded us of what is important. People. Thank you.
